Job Summary
Summary:
1. The co-op aide is an individual who is currently enrolled in an entry level physical therapy degree program that is accredited by Certification and Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
2. Their primary responsibilities are to assist all rehabilitation staff in the day-to-day operation of the service in accordance with State licensing regulations, departmental standards and policies, and accepted professional they are assigned to.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Assists with inventory control with oversight by the Purchasing Clerk of the department.
2. Responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance and cleaning of rehabilitation equipment.
3. Assists in greeting/escorting patients and facilitating smooth departmental flow of patients.
4. Assists supervising therapist in patient care in accordance with state licensing regulations.
5. Performs the duties of a secretary, in which they have been oriented to, in the absence of the administrative secretary and ambulatory practice secretaries.
6. Under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist the co-op rehab aide can perform those aspects of physical therapy intervention that they have completed coursework in and that the clinical supervisor has determined that they are competent in performing. (Only applies to the rehab aide co-op when they are actively on a formal co-op rotation).
7. Completes other appropriate duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Currently matriculated and enrolled in an entry level physical therapy degree program that is accredited by CAPTE.
2. Successfully completed prerequisite coursework as required by the enrollment school to participate in their co-op education program.
3. While on active co-op the rehab co-op is considered in a student status. This student status is in accordance with state licensing regulations.
Skills/Abilities required:
1. Must possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with all staff.
2. Must possess decision making skills and entry level health care knowledge to effectively complete duties and responsibilities (up to 90% of work time).
3. Work requires up to three months’ orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department and hospital policies and procedures, and the specific quality standards of care and competencies, and procedures unique to the assigned job area.
4. Must possess effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with patients (up to 50% of work time), rehabilitation team (up to 80% of work time), and patients’ families (up to 10% of work time).
5. Demonstrates competence in all physical therapy interventions that have been delegated.
Qualifications
Education
Currently matriculated and enrolled in an entry level physical therapy degree program that is accredited by CAPTE.
Experience
In doctoral program and completing final internship 0-1 year required
