The Microsoft Turing team is an innovative research and engineering team working on state-of-the-art deep learning models to power end user experiences across the company. Applied scientists and software engineers in the Turing team work together to push the boundaries of large-scale deep learning models on Turing’s world class distributed training infrastructure. The team is pioneering search and the core copilot experiences across Microsoft’s ecosystem.
In addition to ensuring that Microsoft ispushing the state-of-the-art large-scale models, the Turing team also works onimprovingexperiences acrossMicrosoft’s products and servicesby working on high value scenarios.The Turing team has shippedcapabilitiesacross all of manyMicrosoftscenariosincluding M365 Copilots, Bing Chat, semantic search for enterpriseandknowledge management (aka Cortex ) , quick reply on Outlook ,Smart Compose features in Word,image enhancement models, image search models, recommendations ,as well as many other features across Office, Bing , and Xbox.

Responsibilities
As an experienced Senior Applied Scientist on our team, you’ll be responsible for and will engage in:
- Driving projects from design through implementation, experimentation and finally shipping to our users.
- Owning development of SOTA machine learning, deep learning algorithms and techniques leveraging text, images, and video for analyzing and transforming content to build world-class search and and generative AI products that have the potential to transform billions of people’s lives.
- Designing and developing fundamental technologies and drive the applied research to enable better search and productivity experiences for consumers and enterprise alike.
- Working in a diverse geographically distributed team environment where collaboration and innovation are valued. You will have an opportunity for direct impact on design, functionality, security, performance, scalability, manageability, and supportability of Microsoft products that use our deep learning technology.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
- OR Master’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years experience in applying deep learning techniques and drive end-to-end AI product development (Search, Recommendation, NLP, Document Understanding, etc).
- Familiarity with common machine learning, deep learning frameworks like Pytorch/Tensorflow.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Solid ability and effectiveness working end-to-end in a challenging technical problem domain (plan, design, execution, continuous release, and service operation).
- Experience with shipping internet scale, low latency and high.
- Ability to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries.
Applied Sciences IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 – $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 – $250,200 per year.
