FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.


JOB DESCRIPTION

KSAZ/KUTP in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking an experienced Senior Operations Technician with a minimum of 3 years’ experience at a senior Master Control operator level. The ideal candidate must be versatile and capable of learning specialized software applications and have an aptitude for operating electronic equipment. They must master our on-air automation system and assist other operators as needed. Experience with ITX, and Evertz Mediator preferred. Knowledge of studio and remote broadcasting technology, including Sony ELC automation, XVS-9000 switcher, Wheatstone audio console, Bitcentral Playout, ISQ Playout of Chyron Mosaic, Power Clips, and Vinten Fusion camera control. They must possess strong communication skills with all supporting departments and the ability to multi-task and balance numerous priorities in a deadline-oriented environment. They will be working closely with the Production Manager to oversee our Master Control Department and ensure that it is functioning as smoothly and efficiently as possible while providing top-quality viewer experience within FCC guidelines.

Responsibilities


  • Oversee master control operations during newscasts, sporting events and other live programming.
  • Monitor output signals on both KSAZ and KUTP to ensure quality control of audio, video and closed captioning.
  • Execute breaking news cut-ins, roll breaks for live events and manipulate playlist for the different “join in progress” scenarios.
  • Make sure feeds for syndicated programs and live events are routed correctly.
  • Oversee the recording of locally produced programs, syndicated and paid programs, promotional material and commercial content and prepare shows for air by segmenting to standardized formats.
  • Transfer media into automation system and prep for playback.
  • Check the broadcast log for accuracy. Verify playlists and events are correct and make changes when required.
  • Populate the daily discrepancy report log by identifying problems and writing detailed reports and notifying fellow operators of potential problems.
  • Communicate effectively with Managers and Operators to ensure a smooth transition between shifts.
  • Notify Engineering in the event of an on-air technical problem.
  • Assist Engineering Department and Production Department if needed. Experience in floor directing, studio setup and the desire to cross-train in production a plus.
  • Act as a mentor and subject matter expert by contributing and supporting on-going peer-to-peer training.
  • Position requires performance of other job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • 3-years minimum experience as a senior level master control operator is required.
  • Evertz Mediator, and ITX experience a plus.
  • Experience with broadcast automation systems preferred, including ITX and Evertz Automation, and familiarity with media asset management workflows a plus
  • Technical degree recommended, but not required.
  • A positive, detail-oriented person who learns quickly and works well with a team.
  • Ability to react quickly and remain calm when problems arise.
  • Ability to multi-task and balance numerous priorities.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Weekends, holidays, and varied hours required

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $29.79-34.60 per hour for high cost labour markets such as but not limited to New York City and Los Angeles, $24.75-28.75 per hour for all other US locations. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
