Position Overview:
The PBS Foundation (PBSF) provides philanthropic support on behalf of the entire Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) system. In supporting PBS, the PBS Foundation seeks private funds from individuals, foundations, corporations, as well as certain government agencies for priority initiatives and carries out such activities as front-line fundraising and management of the prospect and donor population; researching prospects; writing proposals; convening board meetings; hosting events; and managing and stewarding donor gifts and funder grants.
The Senior Manager, Gift Planning will work closely with the Vice President, Advancement and Director, Gift Planning in support of a range of functions, including bequest administration, prospect management and stewardship, all intended to execute on PBSF’s strategic vision, particularly as the organization advances its first major fundraising campaign.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Provide support with the opening and closing of all gift administration files.
- Manage a portfolio of active gift administration files to ensure timely receipt of bequest revenue.
- Prepare gift illustrations and proposals for charitable gift annuities and charitable trusts.
- Maintain a formal revenue recognition report that tracks the status of all open estates in preparation for the annual audit.
- Interface with donors and prospective donors, using email, telephone, or other means of communication as part of ongoing stewardship and cultivation activities.
- Maintain a portfolio of prospects interested in leaving a gift in their will and/or other estate plans. Readily identify constituents to participate in Beacon Society events, as well as in-person and virtual events, working in tandem with PBSF and PBS colleagues.
- Track fundraising actions and run performance reports using the CRM.
- Assist with the timely preparation and submission of annual compliance reports for the charitable gift annuity program.
- Partner with communication colleagues to ensure all gift planning information appearing on the organization’s web site is accurate and up to date.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements for success:
- At least five years of gift planning or related professional experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Experience in the administration of complex trusts, estates, and other gift arrangements.
- Comfort in communicating and working with allied professionals such as attorneys, trust officers and financial advisors.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with excellent customer service skills.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Discretion and good judgment.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Proactive, with the ability to work independently.
- Committed to the mission of the PBS and public media in general.
