Job Summary
The SOAR (Support, Opportunities, Advocacy, and Resources) Program at UM-Dearborn supports returning adult learners with personalized guidance, resources, and advocacy. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, and professional temporary student services assistant to support both student services and digital communications efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both helping students succeed and telling compelling stories through social media, web, and PR content. This position will be from May 1, 2025 through December 19, 2025.
Responsibilities*
Student Support & Office Assistance (50%)
- Greet and assist students visiting the SOAR office; manage general reception duties.
- Help students navigate university resources, including financial aid, advising, and academic support services.
- Support students with basic computer tasks and campus tech tools.
- Assist with SOAR event planning and execution.
- Maintain a welcoming, inclusive office environment.
- Other duties as assigned to support the program’s mission.
Communications, PR & Social Media (50%)
- Develop and schedule content for social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn to promote SOAR’s mission, student stories, and events.
- Create short-form videos for social platforms and help with basic video editing and formatting.
- Monitor and engage with audiences across social platforms, responding to comments/messages as appropriate.
- Track social media performance and report on engagement metrics.
- Collaborate with UM-Dearborn marketing and communications team to align with branding and digital best practices.
- Contribute to website updates, blog posts, and student features that highlight SOAR impact.
- Assist with media-related tasks such as preparing press content.
Required Qualifications*
- Experience working with non-traditional and/or adult learners.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with major social media platforms and trends.
- Ability to work independently, juggle multiple tasks, and adapt to a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
- High level of professionalism and strong interpersonal skills.
