Duties
- Responsible for programming and annual budgeting submissions and ensures program accomplishments are within budget allocations. Makes recommendations for budget adjustments.
- Provides the lead in initiating, reviewing, coordinating, program development, budgeting, implementation and monitoring of the annual work plan for those programs under the incumbent’s direction.
- Responsible for the technical and administrative supervision of interdisciplinary professional and technical positions to carry out the mission of the organization.
- Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; makes assignments based on capability and expertise; evaluates the work performance of subordinates.
- Develops performance standards; gives advice or instruction to subordinates on work and administrative matters.
- Reviews completed projects for conformance with objectives and prescribed standards. Completed assignments often serve as recommendations.
- Provides policy level advice to subordinates when required and ensures compatibility of work products with Bureau standards.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with other governmental agencies, collaborative groups, and the public.

This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you meet the criteria outlined in the “Education” section.
Specialized Experience Statement: To qualify for the GS-12 grade level, in addition to meeting the education requirement identified in the “education” section, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience include but not limited to; experience in working, coordinating, and leading an interdisciplinary team; performing work in the natural resources programs; experience in workforce and strategic planning, identifying issues, resolving conflicts, and negotiating solutions. Oversight responsibilities for administrative and financial management functions, as well as managing or supervising a variety of different program areas, such as resource management, budget, or human resource functions.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education
This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you meet one of the below requirements for the series Natural Resource Specialist 0401:
1) A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
2) Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in (1) above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
