Job Summary:

The Certified Surgical Tech is an unlicensed member of the surgical team who scrubs and/or assists during surgical procedures. This position functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Surgical Tech provides direct and indirect patient care, for patients of all ages from pediatric to geriatric by assisting in the preparation of the patient and environment for the performance of surgical procedures. It is the Certified Surgical Tech’s responsibility to know the Surgeon’s routine and preferences.

Position Qualifications:
Required: Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during the applicant’s service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.


Required: Less than one year of relevant work experience.

Required: Certification from one of the listed issuers below:
*NBSTSA CST – National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistants, Certified Surgical Technologist.
*NCCT – TSC – National Center for Competency Testing, Tech In Surgery.
Exception:
*If graduate of surgical technologist armed forces training program, no certification is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment.
* Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
* Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
* Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies.
* Drapes patients for surgical procedures. Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.
* Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
* Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs.
* Consistently provides accurate and complete hand-off communication to any healthcare provider according to hospital policy.
