Technical Partner / Applications Engineer for Protection & Automation Systems – Location Mid-Central US
The growth of our Technical Partner / Expert Team is an essential strategic investment in our business. Working with the Sales and Business Development Team, this technical expert role will communicate product and system value and differentiators with customers, preparing and executing Relay Protection, Control, Monitoring, and Automation product and system demonstrations to the customers. You will develop, drive, and prescribe innovative Protection, Control, Monitoring, and Automation solutions within the US market, facilitating the growth of the SIPROTEC and SICAM Product Brands with the end goal of having the product and system in the engineering standards of the Industrial Consultants and driving influence from the End Users. However, your main activity is providing customer support as a first point of contact after delivery.
Roles & Responsibilities
Key Strategic Aspects
- Bringing Thought Leadership in day-to-day engagement to share the value propositions associated with Siemens Products and System Offerings
- Driving approvals of the SIPROTEC and SICAM portfolio and associated applications in the engineering and approval standards of EPC and design consultants
- Working with Sales and Business Development, building a Pipeline of Projects and Systems specified with Siemens SIPROTEC and SICAM portfolio by building relationships with the customers
- Provide application expertise with solutions related to Siemens EA products, including power management, load shedding, interfacing with generation controls, communications protocols, network topologies, and IEC 61850.
Key Operational Aspects
- First point of contact for customers and Sales in the assigned region for all application-related questions – timely responsiveness to ensure high NPS for the assigned region
- Encouraging collaboration with the Sales Teams and the Energy Automation Product and System Business Developers in the assigned region
- Enabling Sales to build opportunity pipeline for products and systems by improving the specification activity with customers and getting the product in the standards
- Training and competency enhancement on Siemens platforms
- Representing Siemens in Various conferences and forums to build brand affinity (via White Papers, Journals, or addressing forums)
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors or master’s in electrical engineering / Power Systems
- 5 + years of Core Protection and Automation experience in Commissioning, Business Development, and Projects with a strong endeavor to influence customers with technology
- Experience in Standard Protocols such DNP3, Modbus and IEC 61850
- Experience in Digital Substation concepts, including SMVs, Goose Messages, and interoperability between vendors
- Basic Knowledge of MGC and IoT solutions
- Strong customer service and building positive relationship skills, with prior direct customer experience
- Extremely partner-focused, proactive, and effective within a team environment
- Flexibility to travel up to 50 % with full discretion to plan customer interface and travel schedules depending on regional demand
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in end-to-end solutions from the Energy Automation perspective – Protection Relays, Automation RTUs, Power Quality, PMS/EMCS, HMI Systems, Microgrids, and IoT.

- The pay range for this position is $100,450 – $172,200 and the annual incentive target is 10% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
