What You Will Learn:


As a Technical Packaging Supervisor, you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to effectively lead and manage a team of technicians responsible for maintaining packaging equipment. This development program will prepare you for future growth within the organization by focusing on the following key areas:

  • Technical Problem-Solving: You will learn advanced troubleshooting techniques for packaging equipment, including how to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, interpret technical data, and develop effective solutions. This includes understanding the root causes of equipment failures and implementing corrective actions.
  • Prioritization and Task Management: You will gain experience in prioritizing maintenance tasks based on their impact on production, effectively managing workload distribution among technicians, and ensuring timely responses to equipment issues. This will involve learning how to delegate effectively and manage resources efficiently.
  • Coaching and Skill Development: You will learn how to coach and mentor technicians, providing guidance and support to enhance their technical skills and troubleshooting abilities. This includes identifying individual training needs and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within your team.
  • Performance Management: You will develop skills in monitoring technician performance, providing constructive feedback, and conducting performance reviews. You will learn how to set clear performance expectations, identify areas for improvement, and create development plans for your team members.
  • Collaboration and Communication: You will learn how to effectively communicate and collaborate with other departments, such as production and engineering, to align on maintenance priorities, address production challenges, and implement solutions collaboratively.

What We Are Looking For:


Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Industrial Technology, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in a technical capacity within a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and maintaining packaging equipment. Prior leadership experience is a plus.
  • Job-Specific Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; familiarity with packaging equipment operation and maintenance; basic understanding of PLC programming and control systems; ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets); experience with maintenance management systems is a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures; ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods; ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Industry Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or certifications related to specific packaging equipment or technologies.
  • Experience with Specific Packaging Technologies: Experience with bottle loaders, fillers, cappers, labeling equipment, cartoning machines, or bundlers.
  • Experience in a Regulated Industry: Experience working in an FDA or GMP regulated environment.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement Experience: Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

I. Troubleshooting and Equipment Repair

Oversee and direct technicians in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions in packaging equipment.


Prioritize and assign repair tasks based on production impact and urgency.

Arbitrate and allocate limited technical resources to address critical issues effectively.


Guide and mentor technicians in developing their troubleshooting skills, without performing the repairs personally.

Verify the effectiveness of repairs and ensure proper documentation

II. Preventative Maintenance and Inspections


Oversee the execution of basic preventative maintenance tasks performed by technicians.

Ensure timely completion of routine inspections and documentation.


Manage spare parts inventory and ordering.

III. Team Leadership and Development

Provide daily supervision and direction to a team of technicians.


Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to provide coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.

Implement training programs to enhance technical skills and promote cross-training.


Manage technician performance, conduct performance reviews, and create development plans.

Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.

IV. Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving


Lead small-scale continuous improvement projects focused on improving equipment reliability and efficiency.

Facilitate problem-solving sessions with technicians to address recurring issues and identify root causes.


Analyze equipment performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

V. Communication and Collaboration

Communicate effectively with production, engineering, and other departments regarding equipment status, maintenance needs, and improvement initiatives.


Actively participate in cross-functional meetings to address production challenges and collaborate on solutions.
