USOPC Psychological Services Lead Provider

Here’s a summary of responsibilities:

Under the direction and supervision of the Sr. Director of Psychological Services, the Lead Psychological Services Provider, will support developing and overseeing psychological services and programming for Team USA, including assigned national governing bodies (NGBs) nationwide. The Lead Psychological Services Provider is also responsible for leading a team of Psychological Services Providers. The Lead Psychological Services Provider will assist the Senior Director in developing and implementing the clinical pathways for psychological assessment, referrals, treatment and interventions, and management and will serve as a case manager for psychology referrals.

The Lead Psychological Services Provider must be clinically competent and maintain current licensure and certification in the field. They must also be experienced in caring for elite and diverse athlete populations, creating and completing medical documentation, and leading a team of psychological services providers.  

The Lead Psychological Services Provider will provide treatment that spans the spectrum of psychological care for athletes, from mental performance to mental health concerns and mental illness.

• Coordinate with the Senior Director, Psychological Services to oversee psychological services and to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to identify and deliver the appropriate services for Team USA athletes.
• Support the Senior Director in overseeing crisis intervention, psychological evaluation and assessment, and referral services. Oversee case management process for psychology referrals. Offer outreach and education resources on psychology as needed.
• Lead the provision of individual and group psychology services for Team USA athletes. Provide remote services to Team USA athletes and NGBs across the country and around the world as needed.
• Provide a high level of service and communication at all times to all entities.
• Support the Senior Director in developing mental health emergency action plans for Team USA athletes and teams nationwide.
• Oversee the development and dissemination of educational psychology materials for coaches and NGBs to help facilitate the psychological needs of their athletes and teams. 
• Manage the USOPC Psychological Services registries and referral process.
• Collaborating with the Senior Director, develop and implement athlete psychological services policies and procedures for daily operations and Games environments. Oversee the training of athletes, coaches, and staff on these policies and procedures.
• Contribute to developing a healthy, safe, equitable, and culturally diverse environment for USOPC team members and Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
• Lead and mentor Psychological Services Providers at respective Training Sites and Centers and remote clinicians. Supervise providers from NGBs as needed.
• Coordinate psychological services coverage for events, practices, training camps, and competitions at Olympic & Paralympic Training Centers, Training Sites, and worldwide, including at Olympic and/or Paralympic Games. Support developing and implementing strategies for providing care at major national and international competitions and Games.
• Consult with key stakeholders to develop and implement individualized and targeted psychological services for each athlete/team. Work with the Psychological Services Coordinator to provide services in response to requests from residents and camp programs and/or as identified in NGBs’ high performance plans.
• Adhere to HIPAA-compliant documentation and recordkeeping, including recording and entering all athlete encounters and related data in the electronic medical records in a complete and timely manner.
• Provide management of athlete psychological services in accordance with licensure, scope of practice, Code of Ethics, standards of care, and functions of individual professional licensure permitted by State law. Maintain continuous compliance with medical and legal requirements for the states of employment and any other states where the psychological services provider supports the USOPC or National Governing Bodies at sporting events or other assigned activities.
• To ensure maximum health and performance for each athlete, we must maintain compliance with the IOC, USADA, SafeSport, and the Olympic and Paralympic Code.
• In collaboration with the Senior Director, develop strategic planning to support the effective provision of psychological services.

• Ph.D/Psy.D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or related field (preferred) OR master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, with equivalent work experience
• State Licensure as a mental health provider in applicable states of work within 1 year of hire; additional state licensures, as appropriate
• AASP Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) Certification
• Current CPR certification
• Certification in Anti-Doping training completed within 30 days of the start date
• 7+ years of experience providing psychological services to elite and diverse athlete populations
• Experience supervising other psychological service providers
• Electronic Medical Record experience
• Knowledge of psychotherapy and clinical/counseling psychology
• Knowledge of mental performance/sport psychology
• Knowledge of exercise science, kinesiology, and motor skill development
• Commitment to diversity and demonstrated competency in multicultural counseling skills
• Knowledge of and adherence to professional, legal, ethical, and professional standards endorsed by licensing professional organization
• Ability to conceptualize, diagnose problems, and implement appropriate treatment solutions
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer programs
• Strong interpersonal skills, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse population including, but not limited to, athletes (both Olympic and Paralympic), coaches, administrative staff, physicians, volunteers, and other medical personnel
• Continuously comply with local, state, and federal health and safety standards, rules, and regulations

• ASWIS Sport Social Work Certificate preferred
