Job Description

The Vice President of Development plays a critical role in leading the YMCA’s fundraising strategy for the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Vice President of Development leads the Association’s execution of designated development goals in alignment with the identified organization’s strategic goals; advancing the YMCA through annual support, major gifts, endowment and capital.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least eight years professional experience in fundraising, financial development or a closely related field; experience in a nonprofit environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, individual gift solicitation, and project management, including expertise in the fundamental principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with previous experience in corporate communications and brand content development.
  • Ability to speak publicly, represent the YMCA in a professional and appealing manner, and deliver exemplary customer service to all prospective and current donors, volunteers, staff, corporate partners, and community members.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to use both qualitative and quantitative data for problem solving.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, goal-oriented environment; able to embrace change, switch directions, and excel in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Raiser’s Edge NXT or other CRM database management.
  • Able to travel locally on a consistent basis. Flexible schedule including some evenings or weekends and ability to travel locally on a consistent basis.
  • Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.

The YMCA is seeking a dynamic Vice President of Development to drive our mission forward through strategic fundraising, donor engagement, and philanthropic growth.   • Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  • As part of the Association’s Advancement approach, executes the Association’s overarching fundraising strategy and implementation to include annual campaigns, major gifts, capital, and endowment. This work involves planning, designing, implementing and evaluating projects and outcomes.
  • Build and appropriately grow a robust, responsive and comprehensive approach to development with a key focus on relationships as the foundation with YMCA’s family of donors.
  • Builds and fosters long-term partnerships through engagement, discovery, follow-up, customer service, and effective solutions.
  • Manages and executes the strategies and initiatives of major gifts to support articulated fundraising goals.
  • Directly leads and supports major gift efforts, including prospect identification, relationship nurturing, funding conversations, and stewardship with families, foundations, and corporations. Serves as one of Association’s Major Gifts Officers with a relationship manager portfolio.
  • Leads growth efforts and tactics in support of legacy and endowment giving.
  • Manages strategy, tactics, goals and consultants related to capital and comprehensive campaigns while ensuring that all parties understand their role and are prepared to be successful.
  • Develops, leads and oversees the teams, systems and processes for a dynamic and innovative fundraising department, including development operations.
  • Ensures all teams, systems and processes for Development include robust donor engagement, communication, stewardship, and data management.
  • Develops and uses data-quality best practices to donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth. Participates in required abuse risk management training. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements. Adheres to job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with YMCA’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
